Memory Booster - RAM Optimizer App Reviews

Much faster than Ram optimizer lite

I had used ram optimizer but just recently upgraded to yosemite from snow leopard so gave this a try. 1st it will auto optimize without having to purchase the app whcih i like. The speed of releasing ram is quicker as well and I like how it gives you a percentage counter up to 100% while it is doing it. I recently upgraded my 09 Macbook to 6gb ram as I knew I would be moving to yosemite and it consumes more ram so would need newwer memory management app, this fits the bill nicely. I think I have had it crash just once in the past 2 weeks It works great with memory hogs like Firefox so you can free up a lot of ram with this app.

Good app!

I like this one, it is really good to clean your Mac and optimize its memory :D

Very good

this app is great and fast.

Not so good

I’m not so sure if this app does a better job than one of those similar free apps. What bothered me the most is to see adds for something you paid for, and there is no way to turn them off.

waiting for this app longtime

it does what I expected. Free RAM. Useful.

Doesn

This app worked very well before the series of updates… It doesnt clean the memory, effectively doing nothing. It cycles much faster, but with no effect. Wait until this issue is fixed before downloading.

From Good To Bad [Update: Getting Better] [Update II: Perfect]

[Update for v1.3 - 31 Aug 2013 - 5 stars] Please, dont make any more changes to Memory Booster unless its a bug fix. And if it is a bug fix, please make sure to not tinker with what currently works. When I select Clean Memory, it now gives me what I feel is a proper number: From 50 mb of RAM, I went up to just over 2 gb of RAM. This is on a 4 gb of RAM MacBook which rarely starts with less than six applications, tools, or utilities. Basically, only Purge would give me back 2 gb of RAM before now. Thank you for listening. I am pleased. [Update for v1.2 - 08 Jul 2013 - 2 stars] The threshold limit has been removed as I was able to go back down to 50 mb without Memory Booster fussing about it. Unfortunately, one problem remains: Improper memory cleaning. As my latest example explains: I was at 103 mb of RAM and I selected Clean Memory. The percentage counter was fast, but when it was done, I still only had 103 mb of RAM. I went to my Terminal window and used the Purge command as a test. I suddenly had 1.56 gb of RAM available to me. While there are claims that the Purge command is a dangerous command to use, and we are told to use it wisely, applications like Safari which love gobbling up RAM like its at an all you can eat buffet forces me to use it. If Memory Booster worked as it did, Id be using the Purge command a lot less. I would love if Memory Booster went back to what it did so well before v1.1: clean my computers memory as if it were the Purge command incarnate. Expect another update when a new version comes out, because having used it when it was amazing, I firmly believe itll be amazing again one day soon. [Review for v1.1 - 24 Jun 2013 - 1 star] There are two things I liked about this program before version 1.1: 1) I could set the threshold limit to 50 mb; and 2) It would give me back a lot of my computers 4 gb of RAM. The one thing I didnt like about it was that it wouldnt load from start even when I told it to do so. I always had to load it manually, and would generally forget to do so until I started noticing how sluggish my MacBook had become. Here we are with version 1.1. It was decided by Memory Booster that the threshold limit should be 383 mb. My 50 mb was automatically switched over when I opened the Preferences, and I cant bring it down any lower than that, which is something I dont like. When I go to clean the computers memory, it doesnt do it. I had 10 mb left, and upon asking the program to clean it up, it counted up to 100% and then gave me … nothing. I was still at 10 mb. However, Purge via the Mac Terminal gave me back 2 gb. Until these items are fixed, Im going back to using the Activity Monitor and the Purge command. I had faith in this program before v1.1, and I have faith that it can be that good again, so Ill wait for the next update before trying it again.

does what it was designed to do

….and well! What else is there to say?!?! :-)

Faster than other Memory cleaning apps.

Works well, nice GUI, cleans memory faster than other Memory cleaning apps

Well designed app, but unecessary

This a PSA for everyone looking at this app. Your Mac caches data in RAM in order to make tasks such as lauching applications faster. This is typically done by allocating chunks of the “Free” section of memory so that it then becomes active. By purging the Active memory, you may be cleaning up a small amount of RAM that had been improperly allocated (i.e., memory leak in a badly designed application), but you are also going to cripple the performance of applications you have recently closed / open again, as all of that data will be recached. Unless you are running a VERY BADLY written program that causes a tremendous amount of memory leaks, applications like this are unnecessary at best. While it is a great app and does as advertised, the benefits of using a program like this are minimal and only last for a short duration of time, if at all.

Too bad I need it so badly!

I use this app a LOT. I notice my Mac Mini is slow, glance at the menu bar where MemoryBooster shows, like, 23 MB of memory free, and clean my RAM. Result—up to 1.2 GB of free RAM, and my Mini is responsive again. Unfortunately, this only lasts a short time, and I have to do it again in 5–10 minutes. Im ecstatic to have the app; it works well, pretty quickly; but I wish I knew what keeps clogging up my RAM!! Id give it 5 stars, but my instruction to optimize my RAM automatically whenever it drops below 80 MB dont work consistently. Nevertheless, having the Clean Memory command conveniently available sure beats drumming my fingers and rolling my eyes while my computer goes "Uh ... highlight ... word ... uh ... well ... maybe ... uh ...."

So far seems the best app for the purpose

I tested different apps before, this one works the best!

needs minor update

the app works well and does what it says it’ll do, but as pointed out it only last so long… great for people with PS that need to purge if they don’t have enough memory to begin with… like those with only 8GB RAM if you have a lot of RAM 24GB or more, you won’t need this. - Update sugggestion - Note that Yosemite has a Dark Menu option now. Desigers will use this dark when ever possible. your app icon shows at the top for this, but the Memory numbers and % do not show up. you should update this, and don’t update it to WHITE, update it to the dark grey like the icon. thanks for the app it was Very handy while i used it. (got more RAM and don’t need it now)

Works really well

I’ve tried other programs and they always fell short. This little program instead works really well, when you press clean memory it seems to do it faster than other programs I tried.

Very Helpful

This application works very well, loaded it on my Macbook air with limited ram, 4 GB. Improved performance by freeing up inactive memory. Airbook runs much faster. Only down side is the popups for downing other apps.

Try it..Try it..

This is a great addition to a mac. I usually have a lot of programs open (including Adobe Creative Suite, which consumes a lot of RAM), and I can see which programs are consuming the most. GREAT APP..

Does a good job

Definitely does what it claims too, however the ads are very annoying when booting and for a paid app that should not be an issue.

Like a charm.

Works really well, especially for freeing up ram after a hefty session of editing photos.

ok

another memory cleaner that doesn’t recognize all my memory.

bullet proof. useful.

I have been using this app for months. It is an absolutely go-to resource, particularly when Safari Flash video has slowed me to a crawl. Excellent resource.
